The Whipple Museum of the History of Science holds a single ear trumpet in its collection, presumed to date from around the middle of the 19th century.
It consists of a silver plated circular ‘bottle’, with one side decorated with lattice work.

It has a detachable ear-piece attached by push/pull connection to the neck of the bottle, which connects with a rigid curving tube within the bottle and is visible through the pierced side. The tube leads to enclosed cavity at the back of the bottle.

Overall the object's size is 115mm long; 65mm diameter; 25mm thickness.

The object is currently on display in the Museum's discover gallery, in drawer two of the 'medical' case.
