|Ear trumpet; XAH.O.64|
|Ear trumpet; a brass ear trumpet.
Comprised of three pieces: an ear piece, a leather covered tube and a bell shaped end piece.
The ear trumpet was an early, non-electric, hearing aid, which worked by collecting sound waves and directing them better towards the ear.
It did this at the same time as sheltering the ear from unwanted background sounds.
Ear trumpets remained the only viable form of assistance for the hearing impaired right up until the early twentieth century.
|H: 29.2cm Diameter (at widest point): 13cm|
